Published Date: 11-04-2009 06:55 PM CT
Usually school staffers are the ones doing the teaching, but today their role was reversed.Administrators and counselors from the Mankato School District and surrounding areas toured two metal manufacturing plants in Mankato. They toured two plants, Ameristar Manufacturing and Jones Metal Services. The goal of the tour was to give educators a first-hand look at skills and education necessary for students to pursue jobs in manufacturing.Educators believe tours like this give them the knowledge to talk to students interested in the manufacturing field.Steve Byrne says, "Many of the students we serve are hands on learners. They enjoy that sense of accomplishment that you get from hands on. You get a finished product right away. They have that type of skill and they do enjoy this type of work."During the tour the group got to see robotic welders and laser metal cutters in action.
