Ameristar in Mankato is more efficient when it comes to energy use and business leaders, legislators, and clean energy advocates got a tour today.The Retrofit Companies out of Owatonna installed 121 new fixtures with 5 energy efficient bulbs in each.That's resulted in a savings of four thousand dollars a year for the company.That extra money has allowed Ameristar to keep its prices competitive in the industry, but more than saving money, the move is saving the environment and creating jobs for other companies.Senator Kathy Sheran says, "Those things that affect global warming, reduced emissions, reduced dependency on foreign oil with business with creation of jobs with cost savings for businesses. We want to braid those things together, and this company is helping demonstrate how that can happen."Rebates helped Ameristar pay for the upgrade.
